| This atmospheric little song is meant to convey the excited impressions of a busy market place or festival. Yma and Moises seem to have been obsessed with the piece which they first performed in the early 1940s. Although it sports some unusual effects, it is of little interest. It opens with Yma crooning "Ooh!" four times - each with a different shading and inflection. There is definite text used here, as is some interesting vocalising on "Ah!" which is overdubbed as a duet. The main melody is sung in Yma’s comfortable contralto register and rare effects appear as she uses the sounds of "Hut", "Sh" and "Chut" to accent rhythms during rests in the vocal line. |
