Despite the production gimmicks of this song, there is a simple gradeur to the melodic line that supercedes the extraneous efforts.  This is a vocalise of haunting impact and great beauty - with no vocal foreworks and the most minimal range Yma used on disc - one octave.

Yma's breathy, trembling tone and use of an "Ooooh" vowel is supported by orchestral scoring of mixed effectiveness.  This includes gently fluttered wood winds, soft brass, flutes scored in their lower register, plucked, zither-like instruments, and a wind machine to provide the special effects of the sound of wind swirling through rocky crevasses of mountains.

Although Yma imbues the simple and rather sweet melody with many textural touches, in this instance they do not detract from the inherent simplicity of the music.  It is ironic that this unprepossessing piece should be one of Yma's finest studio efforts.  This success stems from Yma's use of a smooth, flowing legato line and emphasis on gentle phrasing and tonal shadings.  The song's importance lies not in the picture it creates, but in Yma's sophisticated precision in molding her legato lines which recalls her best work on the earliest albums.  Although liner notes stress passion, the feel of the song is deeply nostalgic and sad.  Therein lies its appeal.
