| Parawana is an authentic Cancion India. Yma's singing offers some startling high floating notes. In definite sections, however, the piece is too fragmented to be completely successful for North American listeners but Yma obviously relishes demonstrating her high E flats. (One attempt at an F misfires.) One notices in this piece - as in a number of the others recorded at this time - that Yma's pulls her voice back to such a pianissimo that it is barely audible. This was a balance error that would be corrected by the time she came to record again. |
