| Cholo Tracionero (Song of Youth) was another favorite of Yma's. After her international breakthrough, this piece was often used on concert programs. By 1953, it too, was re-vamped. It became Llulla Mak’ta (Andean Don Juan) and was recorded for inclusion on Inca Taqui. The early version is wonderful for its endearing simplicity and Yma’s cheerful, easy singing. Its main attraction is an unusual, and graceful, stepwise ascent to a sustained high E flat, which is then left by a rapid, descending, staccati figure. The final top E flat is sustained easily and with delicacy. |
