Secret of the Incas

This was Yma Sumac's first Hollywood film, copies of which exist in the Archives in English, Spanish, Italian and German but it has not been professionally released on video tape or DVD in the United States although there are several European releases in the PAL format. In our opinion, this is the better of Yma Sumac's Hollywood films and in it, she is spotlighted on three of her Voice of the Xtabay tunes and she has a number of speaking lines, including several in her native language of Quechua. Although theatrical posters, such as the one shown here, show Yma Sumac and the others in a dramatic flight from scores of angry natives, this scene was not a part of the film's story.

Synopsis:
An Inca legend says the Inca Empire was destroyed by the gods when a gold and jeweled sun burst was stolen from the Temple of the Sun centuries ago, and the ancient civilization will spring anew when the treasure is returned. The natives want it but so does Harry Steele, an American adventurer of slightly-shady ways who wants it for personal gain, as does his adversary, a grizzled old man even more into skulduggery than Steele. The latter teams up with Elena Antonescu, an Iron Curtain refugee fleeing from the MKVD. She can help him get a plane and he can help her escape Peru for the relative safety of Mexico.

A review is available. A copy exists in the Archives in case there are specific questions about it. The Tiki logo is not on the actual artwork.
